Remember - if you don’t give it a go you’ll never know…
Welcome
What an amazing year 2011 was. Australia saw some of the biggest natural disasters ever experienced over many parts of the country. Many of our clubs and bowlers were affected by these devastating floods and bushfires in January. By now thankfully most clubs are back up and running thanks to help from a large army of willing workers.
On a brighter note I have once again been travelling all over the countryside. I believe the skies are almost getting to see as much of me as my car. The highlight of the year would have to go to the official opening of the new Mandurah Bowling & Recreation Club
in April 2011. What a wonderful complex with its purpose built indoor bowling centre. I can definitely recommend the travelling bowler adds this venue to their travel.
The newest “Travel Destination” to be added to the directory is the beautiful Lord Howe Island. Come visit and have a game of bowls and join the members as they celebrate their 90th Anniversary year. Great place, great fun.
For the readers among us there are two books about bowls which will be of interest to you. Kelvin Kerkow’s “Rolled Gold” and my latest book “Mandurah Bowling & Recreation Club” souvenir copy.
The Top End Carnival once again proved to be another highlight of the year. This is a fun filled 5 weeks of bowls in the Northern Territory. A big thanks once again to John for his wonderful hospitality. I love Darwin and you will find some great things to see and do when you visit this part of the country.
The US Open trip was once again well supported by bowlers from Western Australia, Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales and Queensland. Details on how you can join next years trip can be found in the US Open feature.
Don’t forget about the Apple & Grape Harvest Festival Bowls Carnival. This event will be held on the 2nd March, 2012 in Stanthorpe. Further details can be found in the Southern Downs Feature in the 2012 Australian Bowls Directory. There is plenty of room for caravans and motor homes at my place so give me a call and see you then.
Keep smiling and I will catch you somewhere down the track for a game.
